Why do Jewish people get offended if I say Merry Christmas to them?

I'm sure not all Jewish people would get offended if you said Merry Christmas.... but apparently this person does so don't say it to him anymore. No need in going into why they are offended. That reason is pretty obvious. Oh and Merry Christmas!!
