Are there Alligators in Daytona, Florida?

I really need to know this since I'm traveling down there soon and one of my relatives is petrified of these creatures. Ways to defend yourself if you come in close contact with one? Areas to avoid if they are in fact located in this area? Will they be in the Atlantic Ocean? Can they find their way into hotel pools? Please I need your help!
